FAQs (coming soon)

Please read thoroughly

This tournament is RATED, every player, including alternates, must have a current USCF membership to compete in this event.

Please do not begin registration until you have the following information for each player: first & last name, grade, USCF id & expiration date, board order of the players (strongest player = player 1).

The annual GCA sponsored K-8 State Championship event is open to public, private or home schooled teams that have qualified through the State Qualifier, or through qualifying competitions in other areas of Georgia.  If you are outside of the metro-Atlanta area, please contact k8statechamp@georgiachess.org about competing.

State Championship titles will be awarded in four sections:

K-1 (Pre-primary)

K-3 (Primary)

K-5 (Elementary)

6-8 (Middle School)

Format: Game/25 minutes with a five second delay (G/25; d5) for all sections. Five-player ordered board format with Swiss System pairings will be used in all rounds in all sections except K-1 which will be a four-player ordered board format. In determining standings at the end of the tournament the primary factor will be the number of match wins.

Entry fee: $150 per invited team except for Pre-primary (K-1) which is $120. Fee must be paid online at registration.

Registration and payment deadline is Friday, March 17, 2017. This deadline is firm. No on-site registration. Any team which has not registered by the deadline may be replaced by an alternate team.

5 Rounds (all sections but K-1): 10, 11:30, 1pm, 2:30, 4:00

4 Rounds (K-1 only): 10, 11:30, 1pm, 2:30

Awards ceremony ASAP after completion of the last round.

Team Roster: For all sections except K-1, a school team consists of 5 to 7 full time students, although only 5 play in any one round. Pre-Primary (K-1) team consists of 4 to 6 full time students with 4 playing in each round. Players must be ranked on the registration form in order of playing strength. This ranking will remain constant throughout the entire tournament, and will strictly govern which board position the player is assigned in a given round.

Coaches and team parents are required to read the Guidelines for Coaches and Team Rules Summary for updated information/rules pertaining to this state scholastic team tournament. These documents will be posted soon.
