Fulton Science Academy Chess Tournament

DIVISIONS: Grades K-12 in two sections combined. This is a non-rated tournament.

There will be a section for the players that are over 1000 and another for players unrated or under 1000.

(TOURNAMENT IS STILL UNRATED!). USCF rules apply. NO CELL PHONES OR SMART WATCHES.

There will be a Certified Tournament Director although the tournament will not be a rated event.

 

GAME ANALYSIS: There will be 1-2 USCF Expert or Titled Players for game review.

 

ENTRY FEE: $20.00 per child. Registration fee waivers are available through the front office.
Register by Saturday, April 15, 2017 or onsite. Cash Only. Onsite Registration till 1:45 p.m . No confirmation letters will be sent. Register early…tournament will be limited to the first 150 people who sign up.
This is a 4-round, non-elimination tournament – players should plan to participate in all four rounds. The tournament should end around 6:20 and including the Award Ceremony.

 

TIMES: Check in is 1:00- 1:45 p.m for registration. The Player Meeting (information about how to use clocks) is at 1:50 p.m. Round 1 begins at 2:00 , Round 2 begins at 3:15 , Round 3 at 4:30, and Round 4 at 5:30.

 

FOOD: Players should bring their own lunch and snacks to eat in between rounds. Pizza will be sold too.

 

TIME CONTROL: Time control is G/30 5s/D (30 minutes, per player, per game). A clock may be placed on games still in
progress 50 minutes after the round start time, with each player getting 5 minutes for the games not finished. For the people participating for the first time . We will explain how to use the clock to the children, as needed.

 

PRIZES: In each division, the top 5 finishers will be awarded trophies. Awards ceremony will follow the final round and will occur after Round 4 is completed.

Tiebreaks will be done by chess pairing program.

 

LOCATION: Fulton Science Academy Private School, 3035 Fanfare Way, Alpharetta, GA 30009.

 

SUPERVISION: Talking in the tournament room is NOT ALLOWED during the round! Good behavior of all participants is expected. However, all players under 12 years old must have a parent/guardian present for the entire tournament or have another parent that is in charge of the child. While parents are not allowed in the competition area once a round begins, parents are required to supervise their children between each round. If it becomes clear a child does not have supervision between rounds, he/she will forfeit the opportunity to compete further.

Enter early for easier management of the tournament and entries are limited to 150 entries. Every child needs adult supervision for the entire tournament. Parents are not to drop off their children for the day and leave them unattended.
Results crosstables will be sent out to the emails written on entry forms.

Georgia K-12 Grade Level Championships

Registration Cap: 500*

Who: Open to all Georgia students in grades K-12

Format for Grades K-8: 5 rounds, rated, Swiss-Style tournament, 25 minutes per player with a 5 second delay (G25;d5)

Format for Grades 9-12: 4 rounds, rated Swiss-Style tournament, 45 minutes per player with a 5 second delay (G45;d5)

Where: (Tentative location) Sutton Middle School, 2875 Northside Dr. NW, Atlanta, GA 30305

Sections: 13 sections (one for each grade K-12). Your child MUST register to play in his/her grade.

*Sections may be combined if there are not enough players in one section.

Entry fee: $30   

Registration: You must register online by midnight Tuesday, November 1st.
*There is no on-site registration*

Schedule for Grades K-8: 10:00 – 11:30 – 1:00 – 2:30 – 4:00. All participants should be in the playing hall by 9:30 a.m. for announcements and instruction.

Schedule for Grades 9-12: 10:00 – 11:45 – 1:30 – 3:15.

Byes for Grades K-8: You may take up to 2 byes. Byes taken during rounds 1-4 are ½ point byes. A bye in the 5th round is a zero point bye. (You may not take 2 byes in rounds 1-4 and one bye in round 5 – that is 3 byes even though the last round is zero points.)

Byes for Grades 9-12: You may take 1 bye. Only zero point byes are available in all rounds.

Prizes for Grades K-8: Trophies to all who score 3.0 or better, minimum 3 trophies per section. $100 stipend to 1st place winner of each section to attend the 2016 USCF National K-12 Grade Championship in Nashville, TN (Dec 16-18)*. All players receive a participation ribbon.

Prizes for Grades 9-12: Plaques to 1st place, ribbons to all players. $100 stipend to 1st place winner of each grade to attend National K-12 Grade Level Championships in Nashville, TN (Dec 16-18)*.

Award ceremonies will be ASAP after last round ends. 1st Round pairings will be posted by 9:15 a.m. No changes can be made after pairings are up for the first round. It is the parent’s responsibility (K-8) or the player’s responsibility (9-12) to arrive early enough to verify that the information is correct or to have errors fixed before Round 1 begins. We will post registration updates on the website but the FINAL registration list will be posted at the tournament. Accelerated pairings may be used at the TD’s discretion.

Format: Swiss-Style tournament, G/25;d5 4 rounds; 

Who: Open to all students in grades K-12

Where: Atlanta Perimeter Marriott Center Hotel, 246 Perimeter Center Pkwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30346

Sections: Unrated: K-1, K-3, K-5, 6-12; 

Rated: K-12 Under 600 Rated: K-12 Over 600. If you play in the Rated section, you must have a current USCF ID. If you are unrated and would like to become rated, you may play in the Rated section, but you must join USCF by the registration deadline.

*Sections may be combined if there are not enough players in one section.

Time Control: G/25;d5  (25 minutes per player with a 5 second delay). 

Prizes: Trophies to all who score 2.5 or better, minimum 3 trophies per section. USCF membership to top 5 nonmembers in each section, which must be redeemed by November 30, 2016.  All players receive a participation ribbon.

Entry fee: $30   

Registration: You must register your child online by midnight Thursday Sept 29th.
*There is no on-site registration*

Schedule: Rounds: 12:00 p.m. for Round 1, ASAP for rounds 2-4. Awards ceremony will be ASAP after last round ends. Pairings for Round 1 will be posted by 11:00 a.m. All participants should be in the playing hall by 11:30 a.m. for announcements and instruction. It is the parent’s responsibility to arrive early enough to verify that the information is correct or to have errors fixed before pairings are up for the first round.

Byes: A player may miss one round (take a bye) if arranged in advance with their registration, however rounds begin asap after the previous round making it difficult to predict exactly when rounds 2-4 begin. All byes will be zero point byes. Players must commit to playing at least three rounds.
